Xiaomi 15 series rumored to be upgraded to IP69 dust and water resistance

The Xiaomi 15 series is expected to launch towards the end of this year. However, we already have an idea of what to expect from the series thanks to numerous leaks and rumors. The latest one is about the dust and water resistance rating of the phone.

Both the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro are reported to come with IP69 dust and water resistance rating. For context, the Xiaomi series comes with the IP68 protection. As you can expect, IP69 offers better ingress protection than IP68. To be specific, the IP69 rating means the phone will be able to withstand high-pressure water jets and steam cleaning.

IP69 rating also means that the Xiaomi 15 series devices should be able to survive at a depth of 1.5 meters for up to 30 minutes. For comparison, IP68 devices can withstand continuous immersion beyond 1 meter. The IP69 rating is essential for devices requiring frequent and intense cleaning. Nonetheless, the additional protection could be beneficial for the phone in certain situations.

Speaking of the other aspects, the phone will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chip. The chipset will be released in October and the Xiaomi 15 series is also expected to be released in the same month. According to a previous report, the mass production of the Xiaomi 15 series will begin in September.

The Ultra model will likely be released in early 2025, which means the October release will include two models – the Xiaomi 15 and Xiaomi 15 Pro. The Xiaomi 15 Pro will reportedly offer a 50MP (0.8μm) periscope telephoto with 3x optical zoom. The 50MP main camera will have a fixed “ultra-large” aperture to ensure sufficient light intake and better end results. To power the system, the phone will reportedly pack a 5400 mAh battery and support 100W wired charging.
